YOUNG, ALBERTA,

Surrounded by her loving family, Alberta Lottie Young (nee Thompson) passed away
Tuesday May 19, 2009 at Belleville General Hospital after a short battle with cancer.
She was predeceased by her parents Orval & Gertrude Thompson, sister Jean Neale
(Roy), brother Harry Thompson and father-in-law Allan Leary. She is survived by her
devoted husband of 50 years, Gary. Dear mother to her children Michael (Cheryl) of
Pickering, Bradley (Elizabeth) of Tweed, Christine Moning (Wilbert) of Caledonia,
Steven (Noam Lamdan) of Toronto, and Jeffrey (Laura) of Tweed. She will be sadly
missed by her 10 grandchildren, Joel, Mark, Jennifer (Jake), Jessica, Kiefer, Benjamin,
Samuel, and Emma Young, Kyle and Kayla Moning, mother-in-law, Margaret Leary,
Corbyville, and sister Eileen (George) Gaylord, Northbrook, brother-in-law Ray
Whitelock, Elm Tree and many nieces and nephews.

Alberta was born on January 23, 1942 in Kaladar. After her education she moved to
Napanee for employment where she met and married Gary on January 16th, 1959. There
they raised their five kids and later moved to Moira for 32 years, where she was very
active in the Thomasburg United Church and surrounding community. In 1999 she made
a major career move from house wife to small business owner of Burt’s Bakery, Tweed
until retiring with Gary in 2007. Alberta cherished her family, friends and music.
Together with her family, the Young Family Band played country and bluegrass music
far and wide with four music CD’s to her credit. She took much pride in the Young
Family Band’s Tweed Jamboree, which over the last five years donated more than
$17,000 to local groups and charities. Condolences can be expressed via email to

A private family grave-side burial was held on Sunday May 24th at the Moira Cemetery.
Alberta’s wishes were for her family and friends to celebrate her life through music and
fellowship. The “Alberta Young Memorial Jamboree” will be held Friday June 19th,
7pm at the Tweed Curling Club. In the spirit of the Young Family’s tradition of giving
back to their community, please make donations to the Tweed Gateway Community
Health Centre. Donation will be arranged through McConnell Funeral Home, Tweed,
Cheques made payable to the Gateway Community Health Centre can be mailed to
